Taking screenshots can be time-consuming. For example, if you only want to capture part of your screen, you have to hit “Print Screen“, open/paste the screenshot into an image editor like Paint, and manually edit the image from there. Pretty inconvenient, isn’t it?
Not with Lightshot, though. This free application helps you create, edit, and share screenshots much faster than “Print Screen” does. To use it, here’s what to do.
Installing Lightshot
First, log on to the Lightshot website here. Then, click either “Download for Windows” or “Download for Mac”, depending on your operating system.
The dialog box below will appear. Click “Save File”.
Wait for the application to download and run. If nothing’s happening, open your “Downloads” folder and run the program from there. For Windows users, hit the “Start” button and type “Downloads into the search bar.
Click the “Downloads” folder (shown above), and click the “setup-lightshot.exe” application (shown below).
Another dialog box will appear. Click “Run”.
Pick your setup language from the drop-down menu, and click “OK”.
Wait for the Lightshot Setup Wizard to appear, and hit “Next”.
Read the license agreement, click “I accept the agreement”, and hit “Next” again.
Wait for Lightshot to install, and click “Finish”.
And you’re done! You can now start using Lightshot.
In part 2 of this article, we’ll look at how you can use Lightshot to take and edit screenshots.

This is the best/easiest, screen print program that I have ever seen. The ability to take a portion of your screen is the “frosting on the cake”.
I use snipping tool or snag it is there a big difference,
Thanks

Hi R,
With Windows’ Snipping Tool, you need to open the app first before you can use it. As for Lightshot… Once it’s installed on your PC, all you need to do is hit “PrtScrn” on your keyboard, and you can already use its features (which, IMO, are more powerful than Snipping Tool’s).
Thanks for the question!
