Hillary Clinton’s E-mail Mistake

Former First Lady, Secretary of State, senator and possible future Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton broke  the cardinal rule about keeping your business e-mail separate from your private account.

It turns out that during her time as Secretary of State, she exclusively used a personal e-mail account to conduct official business instead of using the official government e-mail account.  The move is against the rules and may be a violation of federal laws.

Her staff said that her e-mails were properly preserved, but the requirement that e-mails be maintained on government server are meant to provide security for the records and access to the information should the government need it.

Most businesses and agencies require employees to conduct official business on official accounts.

iTunes Outage

Users of iPhones and iPads found themselves unable to access iTunes and the App Store for a 12 hour period on Wednesday. The outage started around 5 a.m. and continued until after 4 p.m. Customers in the U.S., U.K. as well as Spain and Switzerland couldn’t get to apps or update them.

Apple says the issue was an internal DNS error at Apple. Also affected were iCloud and the Mac App Store.

  1. No person in the government should be allowed to have government business on their personal account. However, we are talking about a Clinton here and they are above the law. She Mrs. Clinton has proved time and time again that she is above the law, just as her husband Bill Clinton was. They are not held to the same laws as the rest of us. They do as they please and are allowed to get by with it. Any person doing what she did with her email should e put in jail, but that will not happen because she is above the law.

    1. Under The Freedom of Information Act, members of Congress are exempt so they can use whatever they want, private or government. The perfect way to “hide” is to not use email, as Sen Lindsey Graham is so proud to point out. When Clinton was Senator she didn’t use a government email account, there is no rule for them. At least the emails have been turned over, Colin Powell has not turned in 1 of his private emails, just as an example.

  2. If an employee of Mrs. Clinton’s would have done the same thing, using her personal email instead of the required government email, that person would have been fired on the spot . It is true that Mrs. Clinton feels she is above the law however the people of the United States should rally around and protest until such time she’s held accountable to the same laws as everyone else . I certainly do not want this woman as my president since she has no intention of abiding by our laws . She seems to get out of everything without suffering any consequences and that is not right in my book.

    1. I totally agree 100%. You said it correctly, to bad the ones in charge won’t do anything about this!!!

  3. I believe at that time it may not even have been the law. But mostly: Government servers are no more unhackable/secret/safe either.

    1. Hired as a county employee, more than 15 years ago, I can assure you it has always been the rule. One so important to the legal department we had training in the matter and had several annual reminders of the importance of retaining all emails on the government server, even personal ones. I never used a personal email account for government business and it wold never have occurred to me to do so. Perhaps the general government believes they are above the law.

  4. Opinions about this will undoubtedly be along “political” party lines, as is obvious from what I’ve just read, but if one can put that aside, I don’t see what the big deal is in the first place. She explained why it was done. It’s not like there was some conspiracy or anything hidden from anyone. I, personally, couldn’t have done MY business on my personal e-mail account, but who amongst us has never mentioned their “business” or revealed information about their jobs IN personal e-mails? I find what Hillary did not to be as bad as when people send PERSONAL e-mails thru their company’s business computer on COMPANY time.

    1. I concur with this person’s remarks. I did, once, use my personal email to send business info to a family, but I was not at my work location, and the information needed to be sent prior to my being back at my work station the next day.

  5. Government employees should be required to have complete transparency in all of their government dealings, whether it is day to day conversations with other government employees or in official high level deals and negotiations.
You always have to remember, first and foremost, they are our representatives. What they do on a daily basis should never be hidden from the people.

  6. She is a lawyer and knew it was against the law she knew what she was doing was wrong. She should never be able to hold another government office again.

    1. Amen, she says she will not allow them to look at her computer, there must be something to hide there. Every CIA guard that has ever worked for her has said she is the most foul mouthed person there is and she treats them like crap.

  7. I agree. At least she didn’t delete everything like Colin Powell when he left the department during the previous administration .

  8. I don’t think any business should allow business email and personal email be combined. This especially should hold true for government business. In no way should there have been government emails sent to her personal account. What happens to these government emails in case of death or if an employee should resign?????? Hillary nor Bill Clinton have ever been held responsible for any of their wrong doings while in office. I think it is time the people of the United States stand up and hold all these politicians accountable for their actions. Stop looking in the other direction…if they break the law…arrest them and charge them accordingly for their crime and put them in prison to serve their time..they are no better than anyone else.

  9. Former First Lady Hillary Clinton, a former Secretary of State, a former senator…gives as an explanation “convenience” of having only one device to manage. With all of of her aides to assist her, she could have had one or two of them hold the government phone(s) for her. This can call into question her management style. Mixing work and home is done all of the time, but in a public job like hers it isn’t recommended due to accountability issues that she is now experiencing.

  10. Any professional business requires use of their business e-mail accounts business conducted for the business. Use of these systems for personal reasons is strictly prohibited and most corporations make employees sign statements stating they understand when the corporate accounts are to be used and not used. This is a business standard within all industries around the world. I would find it extremely hard to believe that this standard does not exist within the government since within the same state department Ms. Clinton decided not to use the official government e-mail account assigned to her she forced an ambassador to resign for using a personal e-mail account for State Department business.

  11. This entire administration is an embarrassment. I cringe when I hear all the excuses. Excuses like Obama…..”I heard about it through the news, when the rest of America heard it”. Yah, RIGHT. And Hillary’s excuse what just as bad…..do you get the idea that they think we are all stupid??

  12. It is ILLEGAL to use a personal email for government business in the State Department. Obama said so. He allowed Hillary to use hers so that he could keep her in line………….

  13. If she ahd a job she should be fired. Many people of much lower titles keep 2 cells – 1 for work, 1 for personnal.

  14. My wife has a IPad and on wed. 3/11/2015 and was unable to get on line and still is out. Do you have any further information on this problem. My win 7 also was unable to get on line. I called Comcast (our IP) worked for an hour with comcast wireless tech.on win 7. No results. Turned computer off for an hour and on turn on all was ok and still is ok.Do you have any suggestions on the IPAD. Thank You.

  15. Prima Facie disclosures and evidence would lead any U.S. national security expert to conclude that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not only used her personal “unsecured” e-mails to conduct official business for 4 years, but she appears to have gravely damaged the legitimate national security interests of the United States by NOT FOLLOWING established State Department regulations and U.S. national security guidelines and requirements.

While much of the focus has been on her political ambitions and failure to disclose how her personal and official e-mails were handled and/or not separated, the possibility exists that Hillary Clinton through incompetence, arrogance, and a desire to enhance her political ambitions may have exposed America’s most vital secrets (via her sensitive unsecured e-mails) to our worst enemies, which includes terrorists and hostile foreign governments like Iran.

Rather than go into specific details of what involves grave damage to U.S. national security interests, it would be easier to understand what Hillary irresponsibly did by imagining what would be learned if EVERY OFFICIAL e-mail sent and received by Hillary on what she claimed is her private server was hacked and printed out for analysis by America’s worst enemies.

Any computer literate foreign intelligence service, hacker, or terrorist organization would know exactly how the U.S. would respond to any international crisis, including military secrets, strengths, and weaknesses thanks to Hillary’s failure to follow national security guidelines. The lives of all U.S. government personnel, including military servicemen and women, have been jeopardized.

Based on the fact that the U.S. Espionage Act appears to have been violated by the highest ranking State Department official, her “personal” server and all E-mails while conducting official business must be secured immediately by the FBI, whose job BY LAW is to protect U.S. government national security secrets. This is NOT an issue that is subject to debate by Hillary, her defenders, and the press and media. It is already covered by LAW and requires that an immediate DAMAGE ASSESSMENT to national security interests be conducted by the U.S. government …NOW, not on when or whether Hillary decides to cooperate.

If what has been disclosed during the past week involved any other American holding a secret clearance, their “private” computers, servers, and e-mails would have already been legally seized by responsible U.S. counter-intelligence officials assigned to protect national secrets.

America is dealing with what appears to be the most serious national security scandal and breach in U.S. history. Appropriately, American computer geeks can serve U.S. national security interests by advancing PUBLICLY how easy it is for hacks to access the “personal” e-mails of a “private” server.

Hopefully you and your followers will pursue this activity from a national security perspective so that the public will understand better that the issue is not Hillary, but protecting the United States.

  16. It seems to me that for the Secretary of State to use an unsecured e-mail account or server (thus allowing relatively easy hacking) is on the same level of malfeasance as any government employee leaking classified information to the enemy. In other words: Treason.

  17. Doesn’t matter whether you used a Government Email or a private one, they can and have all been hacked into. Most people who replied have made this into a polical forum for themselves to be heard and not what was actually asked of them to reply to. The Government can get into anyones account if they wish to, listen in on our phone conversations or just sit outside our homes and use a listening device to hear what we are saying. Ever hear of Edward Snowden? What he stole was private and stored by the Goverment. Information can be gotten at anytime whether on a Government address or personal. Nothing is safe from Hackers so to me it doesn’t matter.

  18. As Secretary of State Hilary Clinton using government servers for her private e-mail would be a good idea, yes? More secure the better to keep even personal information private holding such a position. Was she “getting away with something” or keeping all information as secure as possible to prevent leaks as much as possible?? E-mail is never really secure only more secure or less secure…

    1. No, it is absolutely not right for Hilary Clinton to use her own server for email except for her own personal mail. No Government email should have ever gone into it. And if she uses a laptop, a blackberry or any kind of phone, she should not use them for anything but personal emails period. She was suppose to use stationary with the US Government logo also, which she did not. Just wait and see if she signed the forms saying whether she turned over every single email when she left office or since her little scheme has come to light. If not, she will have committed a felony.

  19. At the time she was doing her government related mail it was not the law to do it any other way. Maybe not a good idea but no regulations. After she left office (2013) that was changed (2014). She broke no laws or regulations. I run two accounts one business and personal and believe me it can drive you crazy. I end up running everything through one email address.

  20. I feel that personal emails are just that and should not be sent from a business account especially a government one!

  21. Perhaps not the best idea but knowing that anything she writes could be viewed anyway if not secured I cannot see it does any harm. I am hoping any other political party does not use it as a battering
ram against her just to cause trouble and stir up anything that might come to roost…..

  22. No, I’ve never conducted Government or Business over a private email account and never private email over Government or Business asset. In the first, it is illegal and for Business will get you fired. Hillary should go to Jail.

  23. I to have lost my “I-Tunes” account. Their prompt says either, or both, “Error 7” or “Windows error 193” also suggesting a reinstall, neither of which I have been able to use to find a solution to this outage. This is after uninstalling and reinstalling several times.
Frustrating to say the least !

  24. I don’t believe that a secretary of state could never have received nor sent classified information in emails. This is why the act of using a personal email server is so wrong. I also understand that some of her aides were doing the same thing. In the military, we applied for a room to be designated as a secure area. Not only did we have to send the letter but had to include the typewriter ribbon with the letter to ensure security. And the secretary of state is allowed to use her own server for government business where classified information much more classified than what we had for an aircraft trainer would have been.

  25. I worked for the government/military for 36 years. It is required for you to use your government email account for government business. And YES it was a requirement at the time Hillary was in office. She should be held accountable for blatantly disregarding the requirement!!

  26. Very ignorant and stupid of her considering her education level, years of gov’t service and strange why she wasn’t advised by other people around her (including Mr. Bill) not to intermix. If she has been considering a presidential run for years she should now this could be a problem in light of the Department rule requiring transfer of business emails to the public server. There will always be suspicion of what she didn’t transfer. All this being said she did not break the Dept. rules which allows State employees to transfer the emails.

  27. Short answer-YES. As a retired federal investigator, we were required to use a gov server at all times.

  28. If it wasn’t against the law for Hilary to use a personal account, which it should have been, it was certainly unethical!! I have 4 personal account and a single business account. Things happen to email servers, but hopefully, the government has sufficient back ups, and more advanced “search” methodologies.

  29. I currently work for the Military. One of my jobs is to produce orders for Reservists. These Reservists need copies of their orders for employers, etc. Often, if they are produced between their Drill weekends – which most are – they are unable to stop by and pick up a copy. Many live a great distance away. Even if they request it, I cannot send those orders to a private e-mail because they contain PII and operational information – I could go to jail. How is the Secretary of State who no doubt regularly handles information that is much more sensitive than I see , above the Law? Answer: She isn’t. That law was in effect when she was SecState – she should be held accountable, legally, for violating the Law.
