What’s Up With My Yahoo Inbox?

Is your inbox looking a little different these days? Well, Melanie’s is and she’s not happy about it.

“I have 2 Yahoo email accounts which I use to keep various things separate.  One is my personal correspondence and one is just for newsletters and Facebook (incidentally the latter attracts 20x the spam as the correspondence one, which is another issue).

Last week, for reasons unknown, my personal account displayed separated into months.  The other one does not.  I hate the separation and want it to revert back to the single listing, but I cannot figure out how.  Am attaching screenshots of both inboxes.  Do you know which magic button will fix it?”
Melanie sent me screenshots, but asked that I not use images of her e-mail inbox in the article, so I’ll use examples from my own Yahoo account.
Here’s the look for her personal account:

Here’s the look for the second account:

There  difference in these accounts, the first being that one account sorted by date and the other by sender.  You can change how they are sorted by clicking the drop-down arrow in the upper-right corner of the inbox.

Choose how you want things sorted from the drop-down menu.

If you want to the messages sorted by date, you’re stuck with that view you don’t like so much unless you switch the look of your inbox.
Here’s how to do that:  Click that drop-down menu again and choose More settings.

Choose Viewing email and then Basic. In basic mode, you won’t be able to view slideshow, use drag and drop or personalize your theme.

However, you can view you inbox sorted by date without the separation by months.

Hope this helps.

  1. Since the change with the months showing up, I have the problem of changing to different folders in yahoo. Say I am looking at my Worldstart folder and I want to look in my inbox folder, to do that, I have to refresh the program (yahoo) then click on inbox to be able to see my email in the inbox. If I want to see what is in my trash folder, I have to refresh again, click on trash to see that folder and do the same thing every time I want to see a different folder.

  2. i dont know why anyone still uses yahoo – so many of my friends got hacked on it – most have gone to gmail – i still use aol but do have a gmail account too – because i belong to several groups in yahoo, still have to have yahoo account but do not use it for email

  3. I got rid of this view in a different way. Just below the “Trash” in the folders list is “Smart Views.” You can expand or contract it for different options. I’d stumbled upon it and selected and then unselected “Unread.” That’s ALL I did. I just checked the “More Options” in the area mentioned in this article, and I’m NOT set for “Basic,” yet I don’t have that monthly separation.

As to why I don’t use Gmail: I do for a limited number of recipients. I don’t use it for most things, including personal correspondence, because I don’t like Google’s LACK of privacy policies; Google will give any information requested to anyone requesting it – without a warrant. I’m not doing anything nefarious; it’s the principle of the matter.

  4. The issue with me is to save changes of an email that you want to keep as a draft for some time or keep it.
the save or save as icon dissapear some time ago from the yahoo menu.
Can you tell me where to find it?

    Thank you.
