When is it coming?

If you feel ambitious, the public Beta test will roll out sometime in July and iOS 9 is expected to be available to general consumers sometime in the fall.

Will my Device be able to upgrade?

Here’s a list of the eligible devices:

iPods: iPod touch 5 Generation

iPhone: iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus.

iPad: iPad2, iPad3rd generation, iPad 4th Generation iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3.

How much space will it use?

That’s not final yet, but expect around 1.3 GB.

How is it different?

Apple promises upgrades like better battery life and security. But this OS also feels a little bit like a PC. Is some ways it reminds me of Windows 8 and Windows 10. (Don’t swoon Apple fans, I’m talking about my favorite parts of those operating systems, such as the ability to snap apps side by side on the same screen.)

There’s also more integration with Car Play and promises of those new favorite buzz words “a personalized search experience.” By now I think we all know that means your device watches everything you do and then makes a guess about what you want to do next using that data.

Apple also says, that like Microsoft, it plans on switching to smaller more efficient updates that happen automatically.  While iOS 8 needed 4.5 GB of space, iOS 9 will only require around 1.3.

I’ll get more in-depth about what’s new in iOS 9 in future articles.
