Where Do I Get A Product Key For Windows 10?

Jay has a question about Windows 10.  “I downloaded installation media as you suggested to a flash drive. How do I get the product key to install it if I need it?

I covered how to create installation media to install Windows 10 in a previous article.

If you’re upgrading Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10, you shouldn’t need a product key. You’re just updating the license you already have. Make sure you choose the option to upgrade and not the one for a clean installation.

If you don’t already have Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 installed on your PC, you’ll need to purchase a copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft or another retailer.

  1. I downloaded the Win 10 tool. I have Win 7 Pro. On the Select your language, edition and architecture page. there was a new box. for auto settings. The box only has Windows 10. So I unchecked the auto select box and pulled down the Ver. box and it only had 2 selections. Win 10 and Win 10 N. It would not let me select win 10 Pro.

  2. You should’t need a product key, not you don’t need a product key? If you need a new mother board, update, you have I.P. address plus win7 disk. If you have Win 10 you do not have this or anything in writing.? This also apply s to a hard disk. We do not know what you mean by shouldn’t? Thanks alan 81875
