Will Windows 7 Starter Be Upgraded To 10?

Carol wants to know if her netbook is eligible for the free Windows 10 upgrade: “I have a netbook with Windows 7 Starter OS.  Will it upgrade for free to Windows 10?  I haven’t seen anything on that netbook about upgrading like I do on my desktop but wasn’t sure if it was covered or not.  Thanks.”

Devices running Windows 7 starter are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 10 Home.  But that device needs to meet the technical specifications for Windows 10.

If you haven’t seen the notice to upgrade on your device, I’d suggest making sure you’ve run all of the latest Windows updates for Windows 7, and also checking with the manufacturer of your particular model to see if it will support the upgrade to Windows 10.

  1. I just updated an old ASUS Netbook with Win7 Stater to Windows 10. Yes, you do have to run all updates before running the upgrade. And in my case, the Netbook needed a wired connection because the wireless driver failed on the first time the upgrade ran because of no network connection. So, just to be safe, I would always upgrade with a wired internet connection. After that, once all drivers are in place it should be back to normal. Drivers are an issue with Windows 10. The situation is getting better, but I have run into problems in this area.
