Windows 10: Can I Get Sticky Notes?

Shirley’s found a program she likes, but doesn’t know where to find it. “I downloaded Windows 10 successfully, but it doesn’t have Sticky notes. A friend has windows 10 with sticky notes. Is there any way I can get them on my downloaded version?”

Sure Shirley. First I’m going to talk a little about Sticky Note for folks who aren’t familiar with it. Sticky notes is a great little app that comes built in to Windows 7, 8.1, 10.

It allows you to leave what look like little Post-It Notes on your desktop. The program opens to a blank note where you can write a reminder.

Just start typing.

Click the + sign to make another note.

Click the X sign to delete the note.

You can move your note anywhere you like on the desktop. You can make the size of the notes either smaller or larger by pulling the edges.

To minimize, right-click and choose minimize. You can click Sticky Notes on the taskbar to view your notes again.

When you shut down your PC, the notes will close with Sticky Notes, but they’ll be there when you open the program until you choose to delete them.

Finding Sticky Notes is simple. If you have Windows 7, 8.1 or 10, you have Sticky Notes. Just type Sticky Notes in your Windows search box and then click on the result.

Sticky notes is available in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

  1. Am generally hating Windows 10 so far–really miss Windows 7–thanks so much for this tip about Sticky Notes which will be a big help to me and something I didn’t even know existed–even on Windows 7–

  2. What! Whoa, what a cool and useful tip that I had this feature in Win 7. I just collated a pathetic stack of various notes that were scattered all over my PC work area. I sorted all of them by function, entered them on the display notes then tossed the whole stack of written notes in the trash. My searching and constant shuffling days are over. Thanks a bunch.

  3. What a neat tip. But ask Cortana or search bar to find one of the MANY magic tools? What if you don’t remember the name?
Sticky note with a right click in the middle offers 6 colors. Right click on top in the “glue” strip gives you a list, but just as in your picture, my minimize and maximize are not turned on. So, if I write a bunch of notes I must leave them on the desk top all day.

  4. I can resize Sticky Notes but not make them as small as I could with Win 8 so they now take up too much desktop space
