How Can I Add My Email Account To My Tablet?

A reader is having an issue adding an e-mail account to an Android tablet.  “I have Windows 10 – turn on computer -screen saver – enter user name and – password – Internet Explorer – homepage appears – outlook.com brings up my email.  On Android tablet – hit email – enter username and password as above – replies “incorrect username or p.W.” I then hit manual setup – enter all information pertaining to incoming and outgoing servers. hit button and the reply is “cannot connect to server”.  I have spent hours in an attempt to get email on my tablet – can you give me a step by step solution?”

Are you sure you’re entering the password for your Outlook.com account? While that may be the password to log on to you computer, it’s not necessarily the password to log on to Outlook. Internet Explorer may have your password already saved, so you don’t have to enter it when you go to Outlook.com.

I’d suggest checking the password at Outlook.com.  Go to the inbox, click the gear icon on the upper-right side and choose Options.

Then choose Account details.

Select Security & Privacy.

Choose Change Password.

Outlook will then send a code to either the phone number or email address you’ve provided for security purposes.

After you enter the code, you’ll see this page. Enter what you believe to be your password as the old password and also as the new password. If it isn’t your password for Outlook, you’ll get a notice that it is incorrect.

If you’re right about the password, you’ll get a notice that the password is the same.

If it turns out you haven’t been entering the right password, you can opt to change it. Click Forgot password? and Outlook will walk you through making the change.

If it turns out that you are entering the right password, try entering it again. But be extra-careful. Caps and extra spaces at the beginning and end can trip you up. I had an issue because I had an extra . in my .com address. It took me weeks to catch it. Make sure you tap the little “eye” symbol or check “show password” so you can see the password as you enter it.

Let me know if this helps.
