The Museum of the Moving Image brings you, The Living Room Candidate, a site where they’ve collected the campaign commercials for presidential candidates from 1952 to 2016.
When you arrive at the site you’ll find an introductory paragraph on the right side of the page, and then navigation options on the left. There you can browse by Commercial, Election, Commercial Type, Issue, and Curator’s Choice.
My favorite way to browse was by the default method of Election year where you can select the election year you’d like to investigate. Then in the center of the page, you can either click play on the first video that loads, or you can use the playlists beneath the video area and choose the one you want to watch from there.
This is a really cool way to look back at an aspect of election history and see how things have changed over time and how some things haven’t changed at all.
