Last week we took a look at the familiar Internet Explorer browser. It’s been around for a long time, but also gone through a lot of changes. You can check out our earlier articles by clicking here and here.

Today, we’re going to look at Internet Options, a very important menu in the browser. To access it, you’ll need to click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the browser and select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.


This window will pop up. As you can see, there are a whole lot of options here.

The first tab at the top is General.  Your first option at the top is to set your home page.  You can type in the address of the site you’d like to use as your home page.


You can also type in additional sites.

Apply the change and the next time you open up Internet Explorer, you’ll have two homepages displayed on different tabs.

You also have the option to make a new tab, your start page or use the default start page.  This is also where you can decide what you want to see when you open up Internet Explorer. You can choose to open to whatever pages you were viewing in your last browsing session or you can open to your homepage.

You can also choose how web pages are displayed.  Tabbed browsing is the default, which means that you can have multiple pages open and switch back and forth between them. Click on Tabs for more options on how new pages open.

You can control how tabs open, but you can also control how pop-ups are handled. This is also where you decide what happens when you click a link. You have the choice of opening a new tab, a new window or just switching the page you’re on.  These changes will only take effect after you restart your PC. You can go back to the defaults by clicking Restore defaults.
