The Ways offers stories from the Native communities around the central Great Lakes and features videos, interactive maps, and digital media exploring contemporary Native culture and language. This is a really cool online educational resource that is geared to help educators in Wisconsin meet the Wisconsin Act 31 requirements and Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Social Studies.

When you arrive at the site, you can scroll down the page to check out the featured content, or you can scroll to the bottom of the page and use the left-hand menu to access the Stories, Maps, About, and Contact sections.

I suggest clicking into one of the pieces of featured content that catches your interest to get started because once you do, you’ll find those sections at the top of the page. One of my favorite stories was about the Living Language of the Menominee tribe. It has a video, a text section, a map, and more.

This was a really interesting way for me to learn more about not only Native culture, but also my new state, Wisconsin. Go check it out for yourself today!
