A Homespun Life: Textiles of Old Russia

Welcome to an amazing online exhibit featuring textiles from Russia in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

When you arrive at the site, you’ll  find the navigation options under the heading Explore. Your options are  Introduction, Traditional Dress, Diorama, Ethnographic Dolls, Historical Photographs, Prialka (decorative carved wood), and the Ancient Language of Russian Embroidery.

I found this site while doing searches for historical embroidery, so I started in the Ancient Language of Russian Embroidery section, but coming back for the second visit to review the site I went through each section in the order they were listed and that was a great way to visit. So I suggest at least starting in the Introduction section and then picking  one of the sections that interests you to visit.

This is an amazing look at textile history, go check it out for yourself today!
