Mill Girls

Welcome to Mill Girls! This site looks at the history of women who found employment in textile mills in the 19th century.

When you arrive at the site, I highly recommend reading the introductory text on the main page, and the deciding where to browse next afterwards. It describes not only the content of the site, but also gives a brief historical description of the role mill girls played in the industry.

Across the purple navigation strip you’ll find the following categories to browse Culture, Working Conditions, Activism and Reform, Further Reading, and Credits. I really enjoyed learning about the culture surrounding the mill girl and their role in print, and the section on their work culture.

I hope you’ll go check this site out today!
