Anatomy of a smartphone: part II

In part 1 of this article we began exploring the basics of smartphones like the home button and memory card slots. Today, we’ll check out the ports, power, and volume controls.  If you haven’t read our first part, click here.

Your phone will also have a port for your charger/sync cable. This is normally located on the bottom of the device. Sometimes it’s located next to the 3.5 mm audio jack. The latest model of iPhone does not have an audio jack. You’ll need to use a wireless headset to listen or use an adapter that fits in the charging port.


On the side of your phone, you’ll find a power button and volume up/down buttons. These may be on opposite sides of the phone or together on the same side.

The HTC U11 has the buttons on the same side.


You’ll have to look around your phone to figure out where everything is. Have fun.
