Chrome blocks my Internet access

A reader is having trouble accessing the Internet through his VPN:

“I’m having a problem when I start my computer the “use a proxy server” is turned off which is ok. When I open my Chrome browser, it automatically turns this to on and starts blocking web pages that I usually access saying “your connection is not private”, and also affects my VPN client. That lasts till I manually turn it back off. Can you tell me why this happens and how to prevent it. Thank you very much in advance and have a nice day.”

A proxy server acts as an intermediary between your PC and the Internet. But that can cause issues accessing some websites or using a VPN. Here’s how to disable the proxy server in Chrome. Open Chrome, click the three-dot menu bar and select Settings.

chrome-settings

Scroll down to Advanced at the bottom of the Settings page.

Scroll down to System and choose Open proxy settings.

When the Internet Properties menu opens, click on the Connections tab. Then choose Lan Settings.

Make sure the boxes next to Automatically detect settings and Use a proxy server for your LAN are not checked. Then click OK.
