I’ve got three quick tips for easily selecting text in an OpenOffice document. To choose just one word, double-click on it.
To select an entire sentence, triple-click on any word in the sentence.
To select the whole paragraph use a quadruple-click.
You can also left click at the start of a selection and drag until you choose it all.
