Is your Google Chrome browser acting strange? Taking you to an unwanted homepage or using a search engine you don’t remember adding? Your browser may have been hijacked by an unwanted download. But don’t worry, you can take it back. First, you’ll want to make sure to remove the suspicious program.
But you aren’t finished. Now you’ll need to remove any unwanted add-ons and reset your homepage in Chrome. Here’s how to do it. Now if you want to do it the easy way, scroll all the way down to the Final Step at the end of this article. But if you’d like to learn exactly what’s happened to your browser and how to take care of each of the problems, read the full article. You can still choose to do it the easy way at the end.
Open Chrome browser, click the three-dot menu icon on the right side and select More Tools from the drop-down menu. Then choose Extensions.
Look for unrecognized extensions.
You can either click on Remove to get rid of the extension or move the toggle switch to the off position to disable the extension.

But wait, there’s more. We’ll need to reset your start page. So let’s head back to that three-dot menu bar and choose Settings.
Scroll down to Show home button. If the site listed is anything other than your preferred home page, change it to the correct web address.
Next, scroll down to Search engines.
First, click the drop-down menu by Search engine used in address bar and make sure your preferred search engine is selected.
Next, click the arrow next to Manage search engines.
Make sure your default search engine is your preferred search engine. If it isn’t, click on the three-dot icon next to your preferred search provider to Edit.
Make that provider your default search engine.
Then click on the three-dot menu next to the unwanted search engine and choose Remove from list.
Next, scroll down to Startup. Don’t worry, our work is almost done here. If you have a specific page or pages set to open, make sure the pages you want are listed. If not, click the three dot-menu icon next to the page.
Choose Remove.

Okay, we’re getting there. One thing left to do. Click on the arrow next to Advanced.
Then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to Reset and Clean-up. Click on Restore to defaults.
Then confirm that you want to reset.
