A reader has a Gmail issue:
“My Gmail account has too many “categories” to save mail . Some come with the account and others I have added over the years. Can you delete some of the categories after they are no longer needed?”
You can’t remove any of the Categories Google includes in Gmail. Those include Social, Update, Forums, and Promotions.
Categories that you add yourselff are known as “Labels.” Fortunately, labels are super easy to remove. Just open Gmail in your browser and go to your labels.
Hover over the label and you’ll see a three-dot menu icon. Click on it.
Choose Remove label from the pop-up menu.
Confirm that you want to remove the label. The emails will not be deleted but the label will be removed.
