AVTest is an organization that compares security software to see which programs do the best job protecting PCs. They compare free and paid PC protection against Windows built-in Defender program in categories like Protection, Performance, and Usability. So which Antivirus had the best score in their last round of tests?

The good news is that 15 different antivirus software products were ranked as Top Products that got nearly perfect scores in all categories. AhnLab, Avira, Bitdefender, Bullguard, Esset, F-Secure, G Data, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, McAfee, Microsoft Defender, Norton, TotalAV, and Vipre all were top rated.

Ten of those products earned perfect scores of 6 across the board. Among the perfect scores was Microsoft’s built-in Windows Defender. In December tests it caught 100% of malware attacks with a minimum of slowdowns and false positives.

Even the worst performers like AVG, free AVAST, and K7 Security still got pretty good scores.

That means if you have a name brand security product, it’s probably doing a pretty good job.
