Well, that didn’t take long. CNN killed its CNN Plus streaming service after less than a month in operation. Just a few weeks ago, the news organization was touting the service as the most important development in the history of CNN.
The service was priced at $6 a month and offered exclusive news programming. The company spent nearly $100 million to launch the service. However, Discovery Networks merged with CNN’s parent company, Warner Brothers and the new management team was more interested in distributing CNN’s offerings through its HBO Max and Discovery + streaming services.
Layoffs are expected, though some personnel may be hired to work at other CNN projects.
Current subscribers will receive a prorated refund of their subscription fees.
