I don’t know if you remember when there was a hot second where I was going to be a Medievalist, but every time I see something medieval discovered I still get really excited. Today, I’m bringing you an Gizmodo published a few years back about the discovery of a medieval board game that was unearthed in a secret chamber inside Vyborg Castle. Sounds like something right out of a novel, doesn’t it?
Vyborg Castle is located in Russia near the town of Vyborg in Leningrad Oblast built in the 13th century it has been under excavation since earlier this summer. The board game was found in a secret room the team was looking for based on documentation from the 16th century.
The article includes images of the board game, the castle, and even a 3D rendering of the secret room.
