Changes Coming to Windows Search Box

Microsoft has announced what it’s calling a “Big Update” to Windows 11 search – the company will soon introduce a number of AI (artificial intelligence) features that it promises will make your life so much easier.

Bing and Edge have long played second (or third) fiddle to Chrome, but according to the company, thanks to AI, “It is a new era in Search, Chat and Creation and with the new Bing and Edge you now have your own copilot for the web.”

The company will add the AI-powered Bing to the Windows Search Box. Microsoft swears this new and improved search will rock your world, though exactly what the actual improvements might be are hard to tell as the descriptions are jam-packed full of smarmy techno-babble dropping buzz words like “empowerment” and “connection.”

According to the announcement, “Soon hundreds of millions of Windows 11 users can get access to this incredible new technology to search, chat, answer questions and generate content from right on their Windows taskbar.” Yeah, it kind of sounds like Google with some type of AI text composing feature, but we’ll see.

The examples provided by Microsoft include suggestions to have Bing plan a menu or help with a trip. All things you can do with Google Assistant, Alexa, or even the old Cortana Virtual Assistant.

There’s also a component to generate text much like Chat GPT or the AI text generator in TinyWow. One big difference is that Microsoft says the new Bing will give you specific answers to your questions, not just a bunch of search results.

If you’d like to sign up to try out this new Bing early, you can join the new Bing preview by signing up on the waitlist.

  1. I didn’t know I could plan a trip via google assistant. Sounds improbable. Do you thin it would work to plan a month in the british isles?
I’m not sure i know how to begin. This sounds terrible naive of me but do you have any suggestions?

  2. I heard some negative things about AI and Chat GPT and if this uses the same technology and has the same risks, I’d like to know how to delete it, but I guess there’s no option.
