Understanding UPS

When you hear the term UPS, you might think about the United Parcel Service and shipping packages across the country.

But there’s another type of UPS that refers to an important tech term.

UPS can also stand for Uninterruptable Power Supply. This is a back-up power supply that provides power to a system in the case of a drop in voltage or a power outage.

In the case of small or private systems, this usually consists of a battery power supply that will last several minutes, allowing the user to save their work and shut down the system in a proper fashion. This helps protect whatever they may have been working on and the files of any application that may happen to be running.

Here’s an example of a model from Amazon that also serves as surge protector.

It’s a great piece of equipment to consider, especially if you work from home or live in an area where power outages are a problem.

    might discourage a few scammers.
