Among the additions to MS Paint in the latest update to Windows 11 is a new AI assistant called Cocreator. Let’s check out how it works. To use, open Paint and click on the Cocreator icon. (You may not have this update yet, it’s slowly being rolled out.)

This panel will pop out at the right.

In the Describe what you’d like to create box, do just that. I’m going to suggest a mystery writer working at type writer in a 1940s style office.

Then choose the style of image you want to create. Choices include charcoal, ink sketch, watercolor, oil painting, digital art, photorealistic, anime, and pixel art. I’ll start with photorealistic.

Next, hit the Create button.

Paint will offer you a choice of variants.

As you can see from this image, it’s not a bad picture, but AI has a real issue with fingers and typewriters. I”m not sure anyone would mistake this for a photograph either.

Here’s a version in a different style. I chose digital. That typewriter is still a hot mess.

You can save or edit your image or just discard it.
