I’m going to put the spotlight on some Facebook messages that are driving users up the wall! Anyone that is an administrator of a Facebook page for a business or organization has probably seen dozens of these. Here are just a few from my Messenger.

The wording is slightly different on each message but they all pretty much claim the same thing. Your page has been restricted or suspended and will shortly be deleted because of some mystery violation.

Now, given how weird and arbitrary Facebook can be about these things (I once got restricted for threatening to kill a ghost), it isn’t surprising that users actually think they’ve done something wrong, panic, and click on these links.

These crooks will either try to squeeze money out of you to reinstate your account or trick you into giving them your password. Besides sending messages, they will also sometimes tag your page in photos so it pops up like a notification. Any actual messages from Facebook will be in your Support Inbox. To find that, click on your page’s profile at the top right.

Choose Help & Support.

Then select Support Inbox.

This is where you’ll see any genuine alerts.

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about these scam messages other than mark as spam and delete them.
