I’ve told you about Microsoft’s new Copilot AI and how it can create images. Today, I’m going to check out a feature that, as a writer, I’m not particularly thrilled about – the ability to create stories and articles.
Let’s start with something simple that could be useful in everyday life.
Here’s the result. Not an awful job at creating a template for an email, though it does sound very rote.
“Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear that you have been experiencing issues with our customer service. We take our customers’ feedback seriously and would like to address your concerns as soon as possible.
To help us better understand the issues you have been facing, could you please provide us with more details about the problems you have encountered? This will enable us to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter and look forward to hearing back from you soon.”
Now, I’m trying a more specific prompt to see it can assist me as a consumer. I’ll ask it to compose a message to a company I’m having problems contacting about a furnace warranty.
Here’s the response:
“I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you today to express my concerns regarding the difficulty I have been experiencing while trying to get in touch with your customer service team. I have been having issues with my furnace and have been trying to get in touch with your team to resolve the issue, but have been unable to do so.
I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter and help me resolve the issue as soon as possible. I would also appreciate it if you could provide me with a timeline for when I can expect to hear back from your team.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Best regards, [Your Name]”
If I’m satisfied with the copy, I can choose to copy it or export it as a document or .pdf.
A caution to students who might think this is an awesome way to avoid writing your own papers, there is software out there that can check for AI and the same phrases that are generated by the AI are liable to end up in a lot of other people’s work as well.
