Add Hibernate option to Windows 11

A reader asked if there was a way to bring the HIbernate option back to Windows 11.

The Hibernate mode saves your open work to the hard drive before completely shutting down your computer. However, it’s not available as a default option in Windows 11. When you click power options, you see the choice between sleep, shut down, or restart.

Let’s look at how you can add the Hibernate option to the menu. Type Control Panel in the search box and click on the result.

Choose Hardware and Sound.

Click on Power Options.

Select Choose what the power buttons do.

You’ll find drop-down menus next to both the Power and Sleep buttons.  If you like, you can choose to change either one of those to Hibernate. That means your PC will go into hibernation mode when you press that button.

There’s also a menu for Shutdown Settings. At first, some of your options may be grayed out.

If that’s the case, click on Change Settings that are currently unavailable.

You should then be able to tick the box next to Hibernate.

Make sure to save your changes.

When you click the power icon, you’ll now see Hibernate among your options.
