Windows 11 has been available for almost three years, but Windows 10 is still the most popular Windows operating system. Let’s check out which operating systems rule the roost according to StatCounter.
Windows is found on 73% of desktop and laptop devices. Mac OS is a distant second at just under 21% That leaves 4% for various Linux operating systems. Chrome OS runs about 2% of devices.
If you break it down by version of the operating system, Windows 10 is found of 68% of devices, Windows 11 on 26%, and the no longer supported Windows 7 on 3%. Windows 8 shows up on less than 1% of devices. Around 95% of Macs are running Catalina.
Now when we look at overall device usage, over 40% of devices accessing the Internet are running Android. Those are mostly phones and some tablets. Windows is second, found on around 30% of devices accessing the Internet worldwide. The iOS operating system for iPhones turns up on about 18% of devices and Mac OS on around 9% of devices.
When you break down the numbers for the USA only, it’s a different story. Windows is at about 38% of devices followed by iOS on close to 30% and Android on around 21%. Mac OS is found on about 12% of devices. These numbers show that more and more people are turning exclusively to smartphones for their Internet activity, but that Windows is still king when it comes to the PC game.
