I made a post on Cyn’s Tech Tips Facebook page about an article on what to do if your Facebook page was hacked.

Within seconds, the scammers came out of the woodwork and started leaving comments. Some claimed to be security companies. Others pretend to be friendly, concerned individuals. Never mind that this wasn’t a post by a person about a problem but an article. Automated programs look for words like “hacked” or “scammed” or phrases like “locked out” or “lost password” and start posting comments to trick you into corresponding with them.

They impersonate people or sometimes hack and take over unused accounts, which is also why scammers clone accounts.

Another way these comment scams work is that someone might post about a celebrity or on a celebrity’s page. Crooks will impersonate the celebrity and say there’s a special page where you can communicate with them privately. Or they’ll pretend to have concerts or sports tickets.
Be very cautious about these creeps, and don’t fall for it. I ended up disabling comments on that post to save myself the trouble of having to keep blocking people and deleting their comments.
