10 digit dialing for modems

Q:
My area requires ten digit dialing, so every time I try to make an internet connection I have to type in my area code for it to dial. Is there a way to fix this?

A:
As more numbers are needed for cell phones area codes are being broken up and ten-digit dialing is becoming the norm. So, how to get your modem to dial up correctly…

With Windows 98/ME go to Control Panel/Modems and click on your modem. Choose Dialing Properties / Area Code Rules / Always dial the area code.

In Windows 2000/XP head over to Control Panel / Phone and Modem Options then click on “Dialing Rules”. Choose “Edit” and go to the “Area Code Rules” tab then select “New”. Type in your area code and place a check mark next to “Include the area code”.

That should make your dialing a little easier.
