Veteran's Day

November 11 is an important holiday here in the states: Veteran’s Day. Elsewhere it’s still called Armistice Day as it was first named after WW1. The day is set aside to honor those who have served our country, to remind them that America appreciates what they did.

If you have RealPlayer on your computer you are definitely going to want to go to the Jennifer Love Hewitt link on this page. You can watch the video she filmed about why we should say “Thank You” to the men and women who have served, and are serving for our country. If you don’t have RealPlayer you can go to this section and follow the link to get it or you can read the script of the video. My dad is a veteran so I was very touched by the way she views the veterans in our country.

“I want to show the kids of America that veterans are not just grandparents, uncles and aunts, they’re our classmates, neighbors and friends,” Hewitt said. “Veterans deserve our utmost respect and admiration for the sacrifices they have made for each and every one of us. I want to bring their stories to the attention of those who need to understand that freedom isn’t free.”

Visiting the Veteran’s Day History section on this page will give you all the background information on why we celebrate on November 11th every year. One of the ways you can honor the veterans is to display an American Flag. It isn’t a day off from work, but a day to say thank you to our veterans.

You will also enjoy the Patriotic Fact sheet, which is full of information on Veteran’s Day, as well as ways to celebrate it, and things you can do, as well as learn about the POW/MIA Flag and why it was created. You can also learn about the Burial of the Unknown Soldier and much, much more in this fact sheet.

Let’s honor those who have served to ensure we stay free, say Thank You to Veterans today!
