Firefox 3 Hits Record
As you may recall, when I told you about the new Firefox 3 Web browser being released last week, I mentioned that Mozilla was trying to beat the Guinness World Record for the most downloads of one application in one day. Well, needless to say, they did that and even surpassed it by several million. June 17, 2008 was proclaimed Download Day and I think it was more successful than Mozilla ever could have imagined!
On June 18, 2008 (the day after the release), the Firefox 3 download counter read 7,000,046 and the Guinness record was five million. Also, at that time, 2.3 million of those downloads came from users in the U.S. Now, I just looked at the counter again and at the time of this writing, the counter said 13,946,307 and it’s moving up at a very steady pace. I know Download Day is over, but it just blows my mind how that many people could have downloaded one application in just a matter of a few days. It’s amazing!
If you want to see what the download counter is stopped at now, you can do so by going to this Web site. It even breaks the downloads down into different countries, so you can see who all is downloading Firefox 3. I’d say Mozilla is doing pretty well, wouldn’t you?! If you haven’t downloaded Firefox 3 yet, you can join in the count and do so right here. Also, make sure you keep reading today’s newsletter, because there’s more Firefox 3 fun waiting for you below in the Q&A section. Enjoy!
