OpenOffice.org Writer: Copy Text Without Actually Copying It

“What? Did I read that right?”

Yes, you did read it correctly and yes, we can copy text without actually completing a copy / paste.

I’m quite positive that you’re eager to know how, so I’m going to get right to the business end of this tip.

  • You start by selecting the text to be copied.
  • Hold down the Ctrl key.
  • Drag the selected text to another location and release the mouse button.

Voila!

A duplicate of the selected text in the location you chose without a single Ctrl + C, right-click or “Copy” button anywhere to be seen!

  1. I see this “drag and drop” method as overblown. I tend to have trouble holding down the button on the mouse so I can drag the material to where I want it. I drop it, then have to go back and pick it up again, and again, and again. Copy and paste works way faster for anyone like me.
