We’ve told you before about plans to use 3D printers to make houses, now a British Architectural firm is showing off a prototype house made from fibers printed on a 3D printer.
It looks an awful lot like a spider’s web or a butterfly cocoon. And just like a spider’s home, it is constructed of a thin filament. Unlike a butterfly cocoon, this house isn’t made of silk. It will be constructed with a flexible bioplastic only .7mm in diameter. Features like stairs and furniture would be built into the home.
The houses would be printed off-site and delivered in pieces sized small enough to fit into trucks. Then the home would be assembled using Velcro-like fasteners.
Softkill Design says the first prototype could be built by the end of summer.
I was wondering if they just destroy small buildings to make room for the skyscrapers, or is there still open lots in New York City. I always wonder how there is still room to build such huge buildings in a congested place like NYC..
