Do you take a lot of photos with your camera phone and just leave them sitting on your phone? Do you keep meaning to load the best ones to your computer and print them off to frame, but never quite get around to it? There could be a good solution for you.
With more and more people using their Smartphones as their primary camera, it’s not a surprise that people would want the convenience of ordering prints directly from their phones.
FreePrints is an app for iOS, Android and Windows Phones that lets you order prints without downloading them to a computer first.
It allows you to print up to 1,000 4 x 6 inch photographs a year without a charge for the printing. Now, getting the photos is not completely free. You do pay shipping and handling. That starts at $1.99, but the company promises that the cost never exceeds $9.99 no matter how many prints are ordered. You can also purchases prints in additional sizes including 5 x5, (especially sized for Instagram) 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 11 x 12, 16 x 20 and 20 x 30.
You are permitted to print up to 85 4 x 6 photos a month without an additional printing fee. You are limited to 1 free print per photo.
The app also connects you to popular photo sharing sites and allows you to print directly from Facebook, Instagram, Flickr or your Google Picasa accounts.
Online reviews for the app are pretty positive, with users complimenting the company on quick shipping and a decent price on extra print.
The app has a 5 out of 5 star ratings in the Apple App Store, 4.5 out of 5 for the Android version. The Windows Phone version only as seven reviews as of this writing, though most are very positive and the negative ones are from users who don’t like the idea of paying for the shipping.
How pleased you are with the prints will likely depend on the quality of the phone in your camera. For those of us who took photos with film and had to send them off to be developed, the idea that you can take a good photo with your phone, edit that photo with convenient editing software on that phone, share it with the world with a couple of taps and order physical prints with just another tap or two is still a pretty amazing concept. And no waiting a week to find out if your photos turned out.
Happy picture taking…
