Can I Turn Scanned TIF File To Text?

Rick in Waulegan, Illinois writes:

Is there a program that will scan text and allow me to copy and paste?  I have a Canon MP560 all in one printer and I can scan text but the results are a .tiff file which turns out to be an image file and I can’t copy and paste the results.

Since nobody wants to sit and retype a scanned image if they can help it, a program that turns a scanned document into text can be a life-saver. Especially if you’ve got a stack of stuff to scan in from the pre-digital age. Rick, I’ve got a program that should be able to help you. It’s a free download from Softonic called Free OCR that should be just the ticket for your needs. You can’t beat the price and it really is a nifty little program.

It has a simple interface and makes the process of converting to text easy.

You can get it by clicking on this link:  http://softi-freeocr.en.softonic.com/

The program is designed to work in English, but you can also download additional files to work with everything from Ancient Greek to Swedish to Korean.

You can learn more about it by reading this article from our archives.
