No Pictures In My Yahoo E-mail

Mitzi from Florida writes:

I switched to the new Yahoo! e-mail and now I’m not getting pictures in some e-mails, but not all of them.  Also, some things are ending up in the spam folder that aren’t spam. How can I get the pictures back?

Mitiz, it’s probably a default setting designed to protect you from images you don’t want to see. But we can change it easily.  Let’s start by opening your Yahoo! Inbox. Click on the gear symbol in the upper right corner.

Now choose Mail options from the drop-down menu. Or you can select the Options tab at the top of your inbox.

Make sure you have General selected under Mail Options on the far left:

You’ll see a variety of options for your mail settings.

Scroll down to Spam Protection.

You most likely have Show images in emails only from my contacts and certified senders selected. From the drop-down menu, choose Always except in Spam folder. Images will be displayed in any message that isn’t classified as Spam.

If a message you wish to view turns up in the Spam folder, here’s how to take care of that. Open the message and select Actions. From the drop-down menu, choose Add to contacts.  Messages from that sender will now go into your inbox with images displayed.

  1. Either this Yahoo! mail tip was written for the Yahoo! plus version or it’s outdated because when you click the gear symbol in the standard, free version ‘mail options’ is not listed.

    1. Doreen, I took the screen shots of this tip as I wrote from my own free Yahoo Account. However, it’s possible that Yahoo! Mail displays differently in your browser depending on which browser you’re using or which version of Yahoo! Mail. I will tell you that this gear is all the way to the right next to your user name, so it’s possible the gear may be cut off on some monitors. But I did check my Yahoo! mail again today and the gear is there with “mail options” listed. Please make sure you are clicking the fear in your Yahoo inbox and not the gear at the top of your browser. The gear at the top of your browser will give you options for the browser instead of Yahoo! Mail.

  2. Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for your detailed view. I also like to point out that some ‘Mail Options’ are dependant on the View version, one has set, as in the case of Gmail.

Similarly, the ‘Classic Version of Yahoo Mail’ for example, displays a limited number of mails in a page. But, the ‘Newest Version’ displays mails continuously in the page. One cannot limit the number of mails displayed per page. I could not use ‘Select All’ checkbox in this vesion, as it affects the mails not yet displayed too. So, I switched back to old version.
