I was really hungry when I started researching sites to share with you, and I had limited options in my pantry, so I figured I’d look up food sites that allow you to exclude items. I found Yummly! Started in 2010 because the site’s founder Dave Feller couldn’t find a way to search for recipes and exclude mustard

When you arrive there will be a pop up that asks whether you’d like to sign up with Facebook or Google, you can click the X in the top right corner of the pop up to make it go away. Then you can check the site out and see if you really want to sign up. If you do decide to later, just click the Create an Account button at the top right of the page.  I choose to F-connect with Facebook like always. I immediately received a welcome e-mail that explained the yum button, how to set my taste preferences, and that I can easily share  the things I find via Yummly over Facebook, Pinterest, or e-mail. 

There are two things I really love besides the ability exclude ingredients from search.

The first is the yum button. When you’re browsing the mouth-watering pictures of these recipes you can just click the yum button to save the recipe for later perusal. In order to see what you’ve yum’d, click the yum button at the top of the page on the navigation strip. After you’ve yum’d five recipes, you’ll start getting recommendations for other things you’d like. 

The second thing I love is that I can customize what I see by my Taste preferences. To set your taste preferences you need to be logged in, and then you’ll click on the drop down arrow next to your user name at the top of the page. Choose Taste  Preferences, and you’ll be whisked away to the page where you can set them up. You can add ingredients you dislike. For example, I added mushrooms, capers, and  a long list of seafood. What’s really nice is that it will bring up all the options of that ingredient so you can weed it all out!

You can also select a diet you follow (Lacto vegetarian, Ovo vegetarian, Pescetarian, Vegan, and Vegetarian).

You can also exclude foods you’re allergic to (dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, seafood-free, sesame-free, soy-free, sulfite-free, tree nut-free, and wheat-free). This will allow you to start seeing only recipes that will appeal to you.
