I discovered this site when I was looking for a way to show my mom how to use a web site remotely. She lives an hour and a half away, so it’s not always convenient to just hop in the car and show her something that will take less than five minutes of explanation, but it would definitely be easier to show her then tell her. That’s where Surfly comes in!

When you arrive at the site I recommend that you start your adventure by clicking the Take a Tour button. This will play a short video that explains what the site does and how you can use it. Then it will offer you a link to Try Surfly now, this will whisk you off to the log in form where you can also register for an account. If you’re not quite ready to register, you can scroll down the main page for more information on the service or use the handy menu at the top of the page to check out the Intro, Features, Partners, Pricing, and Blog.

If you are ready to register, it’s easy! Just click the Register link on the log in pop up, and then provide your e-mail address and create a password. Then go check your e-mail address for the activation link which will whisk you back to the site to log in.

Then you can start  a session, enter the URL of the site you want to browse, and it will give you a link that you can use to share your browsing experience with your friends or family. And then all you have to do is browse as you normally would to demonstrate whatever it is you want to show the viewer you invited.

They’ll see whatever you see and if you click on a link it will take them there too. This makes this an excellent tool to show someone how to use a website, or to interactively plan a trip, or project. I’m looking forward to using this for group work or even to plan the Dialogue in the spring.

The really nice thing is you don’t need any extra software in order to use it. Why don’t you check it out for yourself today?
