Windows 8 and 8.1 seem to have a different version of Outlook. It doesn’t seem to allow setting up groups to simplify emailing to a consistent group of contacts. When I switch to the Windows 7 that was also set up on my computer by HP I can still use the group feature. Is their a way to group contacts that I am missing?
Nancy, The Outlook e-mail client is not included with Windows 8 or 8.1. Windows 8.1 would be running whatever version of Outlook you chose to install on it. It’s possible that you have different versions of Outlook installed on Windows 7 and for Windows 8.1.
If you are using Outlook 2013 with Windows 8.1, you’ll find contacts under the People heading at the bottom of your inbox.

You can select New Contact Group at the top of the page to start a group.

If you are using the Windows Mail App that came pre-installed with Windows 8 instead of Outlook on the Windows 8.1 side of your computer, (and I think that may be the case) you cannot create groups. You’ll notice the screenshot says Outlook in the upper left corner. That’s because it is downloading e-mail from an Outlook.com account. (The same would be true for Hotmail, MSN & Livemail addresses)

If this is the case, you could install Outlook onto the Windows 8.1 version of your computer or you could choose to download Live Mail from Microsoft Or consider opening an Outlook.com account, I explained how to create groups in this tech tip.
Hope this helps.
