I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII. I love using an Android. I’m having a problem with syncing my phone google calendar to my desktop calendar. It will sync PC to phone but not phone to PC. Very inconvenient seeing how I schedule my appointments using my phone when I’m out. Is this an issue with Samsung and I’m out of luck? Thank You!

Fear not Gaby. This is a common issue that many Android users have to work through at some point or another. However, the good news is that there is nothing wrong with your phone. The news gets better still when you hear that it is not a hard problems to solve!

So here’s the deal. The reason why your phone’s calendar events are not syncing with your Google Calendar is because the events you are creating on your phone are being added to your phone’s calendar instead of your Google Calendar.

Confused? Well, when you use the stock Android calendar app, your phone has a local calendar – a calendar that is saved to the device itself and not synced with anything. Unfortunately, this is also often the default calendar, so unless you change it to your Google Calendar when adding a new event, there is no way that these events will end up on your Google Calendar. Here’s how to fix it:

1. Open the Calendar app and click the plus sign to create an event like you normally would.

2. Fill in the details you need for the calendar event you want to add.

3. This is the important part. At the top of the screen, under the title Calendar, you should see the words My Calendar. Tap to select it.

4. At this point you should see the email address for your Google account. Tap that to select your Google Calendar.

5. Tap Save to store your calendar event. It should sync to your Google Calendar within a few seconds.

So is there a way to avoid having to do this every time? Absolutely. The stock calendar app on Samsung phones should remember the last calendar you entered an event into. If you followed the instructions above, then that should now be your Google Calendar. The next time you go to add a new event, you should see your Google email address listed at the top of the event.

If, for whatever reason, this is not the case, and you are still seeing My Calendar when you go to add a new event, you may want to consider switching to another Calendar app like the Google Calendar app, because it only saves to a Google Calendar.

What about existing calendar events on your phone that you still need to transfer over to your Google Calendar? All you need to do is tap on the event to open it, and change the calendar it is assigned to by tapping on Calendar to bring up your list of calendars, and then tapping on your Google account. Tap Save to start the sync to Google.

From now on, you should be able to add events to your phone quickly and have no problems syncing to your Google Calendar!
