I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII. I love using an Android. I’m having a problem with syncing my phone google calendar to my desktop calendar. It will sync PC to phone but not phone to PC. Very inconvenient seeing how I schedule my appointments using my phone when I’m out. Is this an issue with Samsung and I’m out of luck? Thank You!
Fear not Gaby. This is a common issue that many Android users have to work through at some point or another. However, the good news is that there is nothing wrong with your phone. The news gets better still when you hear that it is not a hard problems to solve!
So here’s the deal. The reason why your phone’s calendar events are not syncing with your Google Calendar is because the events you are creating on your phone are being added to your phone’s calendar instead of your Google Calendar.
Confused? Well, when you use the stock Android calendar app, your phone has a local calendar – a calendar that is saved to the device itself and not synced with anything. Unfortunately, this is also often the default calendar, so unless you change it to your Google Calendar when adding a new event, there is no way that these events will end up on your Google Calendar. Here’s how to fix it:
1. Open the Calendar app and click the plus sign to create an event like you normally would.

2. Fill in the details you need for the calendar event you want to add.

3. This is the important part. At the top of the screen, under the title Calendar, you should see the words My Calendar. Tap to select it.

4. At this point you should see the email address for your Google account. Tap that to select your Google Calendar.

5. Tap Save to store your calendar event. It should sync to your Google Calendar within a few seconds.

So is there a way to avoid having to do this every time? Absolutely. The stock calendar app on Samsung phones should remember the last calendar you entered an event into. If you followed the instructions above, then that should now be your Google Calendar. The next time you go to add a new event, you should see your Google email address listed at the top of the event.
If, for whatever reason, this is not the case, and you are still seeing My Calendar when you go to add a new event, you may want to consider switching to another Calendar app like the Google Calendar app, because it only saves to a Google Calendar.
What about existing calendar events on your phone that you still need to transfer over to your Google Calendar? All you need to do is tap on the event to open it, and change the calendar it is assigned to by tapping on Calendar to bring up your list of calendars, and then tapping on your Google account. Tap Save to start the sync to Google.
From now on, you should be able to add events to your phone quickly and have no problems syncing to your Google Calendar!

Many thanks – this was valueable help!!!
Thanks so much. I was stumped for the longest time. I just bought a new Samsung S5 and I forgot about the “My Calendar” issue.
Thanks again.
Thanks! While it did not fit my problem exactly, it got me looking in the right place in my S5’s calendar settings.
Thank you it fixed my problem btwn my samsung galaxh note phone and my samsung tablet.Very easy fix. Thanks.
Wow! I have been searching for hours for the solution and HERE IT IS! Thank you!
Worked for me, just what I was looking for.
Many thanks.
Denis.
Nicely explained. No more issues. Thank you
Thank you!!!!!! Just wasted 3 hours trying everything under the sun suggested by Google, until I stumbled upon your post. Cannot believe the fix was this easy! You made my day so much better….thanks again.
Thank you so much! Like other posters, I looked everywhere and was going a bit crazy when I found your solution. The problem only occurred when the new Google calendar app was updated this past week. I really wish Samsung would ditch their spin on android and go stock!
Again, thank you so much!
Calendar question – when I enter the location, it is displayed when originally saved, but when I look at it a little while later the location is gone. This has been happening for a few months. Any suggestions?
I found that if you have the Google Calendar app installed then a 3rd party calendar app, in my case BusinessCalendarPro, won’t sync anything. You could try going to Settings/Apps/All and searching for Calendar, “CLEAR DATA” and “DISABLE” it. This solved the problem for me several months ago. YMMV.
Although right at this moment I’m again having problems with the Calendar not syncing. Now the Calendar doesn’t even show up in the Settings/Accounts/googleaccount.
Thank you so much! you have solved me problem
Thanks for your syncing support on android to PC with calendars. Really helped esp after searching for long time- kind regards Brian
Thank you very much saved me a headache…
This was so helpful! Thank you! Very clear and the best answer I found.
I appreciate this information, but it is not working quite right for me on my Samsung Galaxy S4 using the Android calendar app. If I simply add a new event, it does not sync to my Google calendar as viewed on my PC. I either have to manually select the calendar as suggested above or manually sync my calendar after saving the event. Is there a way to auto sync an event entered on my phone without having to take extra steps for each entry?
Ditto on the best answer ever I appreciate it well done
This is exactly the fix i needed – the google searching kept bringing up the KIES3 software – that was of no help, so ignore those suggestions.
thank you. I have been searching for the answer for a long time. Even went to the AT&T store. Such a simple explanation – wish I’d found you first.
Thank you so much – solved a problem I have been struggling with for such a long time
Super. So simple. Solved it! What a relief. 🙂
thank you – worked beautifully!
So simple yet so obscure. Thanks for curing a very frustrating problem that appeared without warning.
Thanks!!! Only solution that helped me!!!
Bless you Jonathan!! I have been working on this problem for 5 months. None of the Verizon staff could figure it out so they recommended I pay a monthly fee for their technical crew to solve this simple yet troubling problem. The technical person was befuddled!
Thanks Gaby for asking the question and I applaud you Jonathan for taking the time and effort to share your wisdom This world needs more gracious and smart people like you.
Best regards,
Steve
Worked great! I’ve read many other ‘fixes’ but none of them worked. This one did. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yes! Thank you!
Yes!! Thank you!
Thank you s-o-o-o much, works great.
It is so simple, why was it so hard to get this solution?
You guys at WS are great!!
Brilliant !! Thank you so much….this has been bugging me for months! Worked like charm. 🙂
Perfect explanation! Thank you so much.
Still a pain that I have to go and adjust every event individually but its better then nothing. If there is something to right that problem kindly post if you have time.
Cheers
Thanks so much for this. Great walkthrough on how to do it. I’d had a couple of scheduling disasters because of this issue, and Google’s troubleshooting guide was no help at all. Bookmarked this page because I’ll need it when I get my new phone!
This worked! Thank you sooooooo much! However, if I delete an event from a date on my Samsung Galaxy V calendar, it does not automatically delete from my Gmail calendar. Is there a fix for this?
Hi Jonathan! 🙂
For the last few days I’m strugglin’ to sync my calendar data from my 2.3.3 android phone to the new one (both have stock calendar apps).
I’ve read your article and tried all the steps you’ve mentioned above but it seems that the 2.3.3 stock calendar app doesn’t have the option to tap on the event to open it (to change the calendar it is assigned to). 🙁
I’ve looked for a solution on the internet but with no success. Can you help me with this situation?
My Samsung S5 is running Android 5.0
My Google Calendar (version 4.0) does not look anything like the one shown in this thread.
I spent 2 days trying to figure this out. This was so easy. It’s fixed and I didn’t have to clear my phone out, reinstall anything. Thank you so much
Thank you. Like so many others, this was driving me crazy. On my Huawei Ascend Mate 2 it looks very different, but the principle is the same. In the very first field (looks like a button with a down-arrow) you can choose phone or your email account.
Again, thank you a million times a million!
What if I have like a year of unsynced events! I can’t go from one event to the other, they are too many!
Hvae you figured it out? Any answers yet? I have the same problem.
Perfect, couldn’t figure out why my phone calendar events weren’t syncing to the computer.
Glad to find this site, spend several hours going around the Google infosites.
Many, many thanks.
Why can’t they fix this issue permanently?? Also, with the current version of Google Calendar, there isn’t a way to change the the calendar for an existing event. This is SO frustrating! ! ! !
Is there a calendar that just simply WORKS with PC and android devices without this hassle?
This site was soooooo very helpful. I am so glad I found it and the fix worked perfectly.
Hi Glenn,
I have the same issue for the last three months !!!!
Saw you wrote the solution was helpful. What is it ?
Thanks
Albert
Yay…this was easy!!thank you so much
This is false, they are not syncing for other reasons, I have added them to my google calendar and not the local one, it doesn’t sync because some event has broken data and it crashes the sync adapter. Your blog post title is misleading and I was looking for a fix for this problem, while your blog post is only a tutorial on how to pick the right calendar to put events on when the sync is already in a working state.
I completely agree. I can’t get my Google calendar on Samsung S7 to sync the events with Google on tab or PC.
