In my opinion, one of the best features of having a mobile device, such as a smartphone or a tablet, is that you can use it as an eBook reader! I think all of you book lovers will agree with me on this one. Having a great eBook reader app is also a major plus. I’ve researched a bit a tested some of the most popular Android apps for book lovers, available on Google Play. I narrowed down the list to 5 top best Android apps for book lovers, which I hope you’ll like too.
Below, I’ve written the pros and cons for each one of these apps, plus a short description of what the app does. The apps are presented in no particular order. Feel free to download and test them yourself. They are all free. Enjoy!

Aldiko is an eBook reader application that runs on any Android device. It is a free Android app that lets you easily transform your Android device into an eBook reader.

- It has a user-friendly interface and an advanced library management system.
- The free version has great features too.
Cons:
- I had very small issues with it. For example I did not like how full justification looked on a small screen device, but other than that the app is a great eVook reader you can use on your Android mobile device.

Universal Book Reader is a free eBook application allowing you to read EPUB and PDF files. It has similar features as Aldiko Ebook Reader.
Pros:
- Great, user friendly design.
- The free version is great. The ads aren’t intrusive and won’t bother you.

Cons:
- You don’t get a book store bundled with it, but that’s what Amazon Kindle and Google Play Books are for.

With Google Play Books you can read the books available on Google Play on your Android mobile device. You can easily shop books on Google Play.
Pros:
- Minimalistic interface.

- I didn’t find any cons. This is a great app similar to Amazon Kindle app presented below.

The Amazon Kindle app lets you buy eBooks directly from Amazon. It is very similar to the Google Play Books app, so it’s just a matter of personal preference whether you want to buy books from Google or from Amazon.

- Has a simple, user-friendly interface.
- You can use the built-in dictionary, Google, and Wikipedia.

Cons:
- Some users complain about the latest updates of this app, as it makes the app to freeze sometimes.

Audible is owned by Amazon too. It lets you listen to books on the go. It’s a great app for audiobook fans.
Pros:
- It has chapter navigation, bookmarking, sleep mode, variable narration speed, button-free mode.
- It has a badges and achievements system which makes it more fun to use.
- You can connect it with Facebook and Twitter.
Cons:
- Its large inventory could be overwhelming at first.
- The interface is a bit more complicated.

Thanks, I will be switching to an Android phone next month and am looking for apps there to replace the ones I have on my company iPhone. I use Kindle Reader on the Apple and since you say it is available on Andoid, I figured it was, and is still a good app I’ll probably stick with it.
Thank you for this info. I will be using it on my pad. I use free books from Kindle on my PC and love it. This will help me lots.
You’re welcome! I’m really glad the list was helpful! 🙂
