I rarely use my hotmail account. I check it every couple of months, only. However I do have some important emails pinned in that account that I don’t want to lose. I didn’t even know that hotmail had become outlook. Now I can’t access my account. My password won’t work…and it is the correct password. When I full out their forms to gain access to my account, I am told it is incorrect or insufficient. How do I gain access?
Try to regain access at https://account.live.com/acsr, which requires the Microsoft email address and verification plus one different email address to get the ball rolling. You can also try at https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx? (you’ll need to enter your Microsoft account and verify). (Note: https://signup.live.com is the current spot to sign up for a new account).
Unfortunately, if note of that works, you may be out of luck. This is a great time to remind people that if your e-mail account offers the option of using another e-mail address or a phone number to recover your password, make sure to take advantage of that service and to keep that information up-to-date.

For some reason some how, I have lost access to one of my email accounts (thetoymaster1@hotmail.com) about 4 years ago and have tried everything I know of to regain it back. I just read your Hot Mail tip on recovering it and hope it works. If it does, I will make sure I tell EVERYOBE I KNOW about you guys. 🙂

Man….you guys are the GREATEST…I just sent you a message saying I was going to try this tip. Well guess what? IT WORKED! After all these years of trying to regain access and not being able to, I finally got it back.

I’ve a doubt, whether the questioner has tried the ‘Forgot Password’ link to get a new password. That mail account had been lost/stolen would have been clear if it had been tried.
We’ve heard from several users who say this method resolved the issue for them.
