Apple Wins iTunes Lawsuit

Apple did nothing wrong when they made iPod users purchase their music from the iTunes store. A jury decided against the plaintiffs in a suit brought by individual users and businesses. They charged that Apple unfairly blocked competitors.

Apple argued that the restricted ecosystem was necessary for quality control.  RealNetworks, the developers of RealPlayer claimed that Apple had issued a software update specifically targeted at keeping users from playing iTunes music on devices using the RealPlayer song manager.

Apple said the update was aimed at adding new features for consumers and the jury agreed.

 

Firefox Asks Users For Donations

Mozilla, the developers of the popular Firefox browser, is looking to raise some money and they’re asking for help on the start page.  The post asks users to donate money if they find the browser useful and offers options of $10, $5 and $3.

You won’t see this option every single time you launch the browser. Users have the option to pay through credit cards or PayPal.  Mozilla took a huge financial hit when its relationship as a search partner with Google ended and Yahoo became the default search engine for Firefox.

Mozilla is a non-profit group that says it received almost $7 million in donations in 2013. If you’d like to help out Mozilla, click here.

Windows Getting Lots Of Feedback For Windows 10

Windows is getting a lot of takers for the technical preview for Windows 10. More than 1.5 million people have signed up and the company says half a million people are using this preview every single day.

The company says they are excited, because the feedback from these users will help them fix bugs and glitches before Windows 10 hits the consumer market.  The number of users is much higher than number of beta testers for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. The compoany says it’s fixed almost 1,300 bugs so far and is making changes to the features and design of the system based on feedback.

Windows 10 features the return of the start menu and is expected to be released in the summer of 2015.
