Who Knew Windows 10 Was Free?

Thanks for the Windows 10 update. As someone who has crutched through with a ‘Vista’ machine awaiting a new OS better than 8.1, only to find 10 is going to be ‘Free’, who knew it was to be ‘Free’ and when did they know it? Passed up a lot of good deals from HP and Dell. Now I don’t know whether to buy now, or wait for a Windows 10 dedicated machine. Really miffed.

There had been speculation that Windows 10 might be a free upgrade to current systems from the time it was announced. Microsoft confirmed that speculation on January 21st.

I doubt you’ve seen the last of the good deals on new computers and I wouldn’t worry too much about buying now, since the upgrade is free for those running Windows 7 and 8.1.  I do want to emphasize that the upgrade is only free to those with valid licenses for Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.

The cost of Windows 10 will, of course, be included in the purchase of a new computer. Since you say your system is on its last legs, I think I would go ahead an buy a new device now when you spot a good deal.

  1. Thanks for answering to a reply I made in a previous post. This is such a ‘Super’ format and I wish to congratulate you, Steve and everyone concerned as this is always a congenial and accurate forum of information. Still looking for that ‘perfect’ machine for Windows 10, probably somewhere down the road.
    Thanks again,

  2. I currently have an Asus with Windows 7 which I bought at Best Buy about a year ago. I love it but I have a feeling that I would love it even more with Windows 10. I would appreciate knowing how I could have it downloaded into my computer and have it installed. Thanks, ~Abel
