Good news for viewers ready to cut the cord and say goodbye to traditional cable and satellite services. Sling TV is now offering popular cable channels via the Internet anywhere in the United States.

The service works with a Roku streaming box also with your Android Tablet or iPad and your Mac or PC.  The company says the service will also soon be available for Amazon Fire TV and the Xbox One as well as the Google Nexus Player.

You will need to a have a stable broadband connection to use Sling.  Since you use devices you already own to stream the service, there’s no equipment to buy and no fee to set up your account.

The service starts at $20 a month for a package including ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel, El Rey, Maker, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney, ABC Family CNN and Golovision.

For an additional $5 per month you can add a sports package with ESPN U, SEC ESPN, ESP News, Bases Loaded five other sports channels. Another $5 will get you a news and info package with HLN, Cooking, DIY and Bloomberg. You could also opt to spend $5 for Disney Junior, Disney XD, Boomerang and two more channels for kids.

You can watch the programming at home or on-the-go as long as you have a broadband connection and a supported device. But you can only watch a channel on one device at a time. You can’t watch ESPN in the living room while your spouse has it on a tablet in another room.

Unlike your cable or satellite service, many of the channels don’t allow you to pause or fast-forward through commercials.  And after three days, the older show in the DVR are automatically deleted.

The other viewing option missing is local channels. If you live someplace where you can pick up local channels over the air, you may be able to set up an antenna to view them on your television. Also keep in mind that many of the apps that allow you to watch television shows on the Internet do require you to log in with your cable or satellite account, so some of your viewing options may be limited there.
