How Much For Windows 10 After Year One?

I’ve had this question about the free upgrade to Window 10 several times, asked in several different ways by readers just like David, who asks:

The BIG question is “What will they charge after year ONE”?

If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 10, the answer is “nothing.” That upgrade is free and good for the life of your computer.  For those who fail to upgrade during the first year,  the price has not been announced yet.

There’s not reason to think it won’t be priced along the same lines as Windows 8.1 –  right around $100. But there’s no firm price now. Some had speculated that Microsoft might be switching to a subscription-based service for the OS. But Microsoft says that it will be sold just like previous versions of Windows.

How much will it cost?   If you have Windows 7 or 8.1 installed on your computer, the upgrade is FREE.

How long does the upgrade last?  The life of the computer, this is NOT a subscription deal.

The upgrade is expected to be available sometime in late summer.

  1. I’ve been following the comments about the installation of Win 10. Let’s hope that MS keeps their loyal customers’ purses in mind and be a simple automatic download (or whatever it’s called.) I am on a senior citizen but this goes for those on fixed incomes as well. We don’t have the money to hire someone to update our computers nor may we have relatives, friends, etc. to give us a helping hand. It is bad enough that I just purchased a new computer Christmas Eve Day with 8.1 on it when I was perfectly happy with 7.

  2. I had the impression from your earlier articles the Win 10 was in Beta. This article implies (to me) that its’ ready now & I should go get it. Please advise.
