In part 1 of this series, we looked at how to change your profile pictures for Facebook. Now let’s take a look at how to add or change your cover photo. Your cover photo is the large banner image at the top of your Facebook profile. It’s not to be confused with your smaller profile picture on the lower left side of your profile page. To get to your profile page, click your name at the top of your Facebook feed.

Your profile page should look something like this.

Or if you have yet to add any photos, like this.

As we discussed in part 1 of this tip, your profile photo is smaller and squared off. It should be an image that represents you. Facebook suggests you use an actual picture of yourself. For your cover photo, you’ll want something on a larger scale. Landscapes or group pictures work well for cover photos, though they aren’t very good for profile pictures.
To get started changing or adding your cover photo, hover over the little camera symbol in the upper left of your cover photo. You’ll be given the option to update your cover photo. Click on that.

A drop-down menu will allow you to choose from photos already uploaded to Facebook or upload a photo. You can also choose to reposition or remove your current cover photo.

It’s best to choose something that displays well in the larger rectangular format of the cover photo. If you choose to use a photo already uploaded to Facebook, you can pick an image from your recent photos or go through your albums looking for just the right one.

Once the photo is added, you can drag it to reposition for the best placement.

When you’re happy with the result, choose Save Changes.

Your cover photo will update.
