Flash Drive-Sized PCs – It’s Possible

Google is showing off a new kind of device that runs on the Chrome OS. This summer, ASUS will sell a PC around the size of a flash drive with a small price to match – less than $100.

This device can plug into any display with an HDMI port.  You can sync a keyboard and mouse with it via Bluetooth. You’ve got an instant computer almost anywhere you go.

This device could be especially useful for students, enabling them  to carry their computers in their pockets and plug them in when they get to the classroom.  You can turn your TV into Chromebook whenever you need a computer.  The Chrombit has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, but you also have the cloud storage option.

If you’d prefer an Windows option, Intel has announced their own HDMI stick that will turn your TV into a Windows PC. It features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB port plus 32 GB of memory and will cost about $150.

Both devices will be available later this year.

  1. sounds very useful.
    question: would appreciate a reply.
Instead of sync a keyboard peripheral, could you use an “on screen” keyboard.

  2. Wow!!!! things are really getting smaller in actual size. I would love to be able to carry a laptop on a flash drive. Being disabled and not able to carry a laptop this would be fantastic.

  3. I can see this as being a great asset to some, for example a student, a business man, etc. However I am retired and right now can’t see me needing this item.

  4. If it came with a tutorial for use and if it could be used for email and facebook this would be fun. Would the line be secure and password protected?

  5. Agree that this could be very useful. I guess the next thing will be roll up screens that actually are practical. Voice recognition would be a great addition an feature as well. Living in this age is exciting and fun. Now for a way to pay for it all.
